A few months ago I went to my cousin, Alana Bograd's show in Philadelphia. I love Alana's work and it was a great time. One of the other three exhibiting artists was Fay Ku. I had never seen her work before, and it completely took me by surprise. Fay's violent little girls, engaged in 'grown-up' struggles are both shocking and entertaining. Her color pallet is very distinct - most of her work is done with graphite, ink and watercolor on gray paper.
Here are some of my favorite pieces:
The Archer, 2006
Flying Kites, 2006
Ostrich Hunt, 2006
Knife Thrower, 2005
If you want to see more of Fay's work, she has a comprehensive collection on her website. If you're in the New York area, she has an upcoming solo show that starts on May 12th.
